VI. Promoting Your Blog

You now are the proud owner of a fully automated and monetized website in the highly profitable hypnosis/hypnotherapy niche. However to make money you need to attract visitors. The more people visit your blog the more money you will make.

There are many ways to promote your blog, some more efficient than others. I am going to list nine great ways that you can promote your blog, most of which are completely free.

9 Ways of Promoting Your Blog

1. Social Profile Links

Do you use Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Blogspot or any other similar social networking/blogging sites? Well if you do add a link back to your new blog on them and encourage your friends to visit and promote it on their own pages. This can quickly spread the word about your blog to many thousands of people. And if you don’t use social networking sites…it might just be a good time to start.

2. Email and Forum Signatures

This is quite similar to the method above. Most email clients and forums will allow you to create a “signature”. This is a short message that appears at the end of your emails or forum posts.

You can use this to easily promote your own blog with a little message like “Hi, my name is [BLANK]. Check out my blog at http://www.yourwebsiteaddress.com” or “Interested in hypnosis? Learn more about this fascinating subject at http://www.yourwebsiteaddress.com”.

Add a signature to every email and forum account you have.

3. Blog Commenting

Most blogs will give you the option to leave a comment after a post. Here you can leave a short message of appreciation for the post as well as your name and a link back to your blog. You can find a wide range of health blogs to leave comments at the address below.

NOTE: Please be respectful of other blog owners - do not spam their posts. Try to add to the discussion wherever possible.

4. Submitting To Directories

Directories are websites that collect and display links of other websites so their users can find specific sites they’d like to visit. There are actually a few different kinds of directories but the ones you will be looking to use are Blog Directories and RSS Directories.

The link below contains a list of 20 great blog directories you can submit your blog to.

The following link contains a list of RSS Directories you can submit your RSS Feed.

Your RSS Feed will be http://www.yourwebsite.com/feed

Most of these should be free. If they’re not free just skip on to the next directory.

5. Social Bookmarking

Social bookmark sites allow you to open an account for free and then bookmark pages you find interesting. These are then added into the relevant categories on the bookmarking site making them visible to hundreds of thousands of people each day.

You can use this to post a link and short description to each new piece of content your site receives daily. I have included links to the best seven social bookmarking sites below.

6. Article Submission

This is an advanced option - you need to know something about the topic of hypnosis/hypnotherapy. If you don’t then just keep reading your own blog and you’ll soon learn more than enough.

Take this knowledge and write an article about hypnosis. For example you could write an article entitled “Hypnosis and Weight Loss” about how hypnosis can help a person lose weight. Once you have written the article you can then post it to a number of article submission sites.

These sites accept articles and allow you to include a link back to your blog at the end as a resource. Some webmasters and blog owners also post these articles on their websites meaning you can get a lot of promotion from just one article.

Below is a list of free article submission sites you can use. You don’t have to use them all. Just pick a handful and stick to them.

7. Guest Posting On Other Blogs

This is similar to the article submission method above. Instead though you send an article to a popular blog and they post it for you with a link back to your blog.

It can be difficult to find blogs that accept guest posts but it is a very worthwhile endeavor. You could begin by looking through a blog directory like the one below.

I know one site that accepts articles on the subject of how hypnosis can be used for relaxation - http://www.relaxationhaven.com - that may be a good place to try.

8. Write a Press Release

A press release is a statement written to the media. This may sound daunting but it can all be done easily online. You will probably only ever write and distribute one press release and that is to announce the opening of our blog but you can do this as often as you want if you have something to write about.

To learn about how to write a press release go to the link below.

When you have written a press release the best website to use is Online PR News. You will get a link back to your blog and Google News often picks up content there.

9. Link Exchange

You can exchange links with other similar website/blogs to help promote each other. Normally all you’ll have to do is email the owner of the site with your linking details and where they can find their link on your site. This means that you’ll have a link to X on your blog while X will have a link to you on their site.

You can add links to the sidebar on your blog by clicking Links > Add New. The details you need to enter are:

Name: The name or title of the website you’re linking to. Example – HypnoBusters.
Web Address: The URL of the website you’re linking to. Example – http://www.hypnobusters.com
Description: Write a short description of the website you’re linking to. Example - “Sells hypnosis MP3s”.
Categories: Choose “blogroll”.
Target: Choose “_blank” so that visitors stay on your blog while visiting the link on a new page.

You don’t need to make any changes to the Link Relationship or Advanced settings.

Once you have entered all the necessary details press the blue Add Link button at the top right hand corner.

You can gain a lot of link value, especially in the beginning,
by using directories. However, it pays to be careful about what sites you submit to.
Some websites are called "link farms" because they are directories of tens of thousands of sites without really giving any value.
Google can sometimes penalize websites for doing this.
